Chairman of the Eastern Regional Football Association, Linford Boadu Asamoah has given hints of the Ghana Football Association’s plan to retire the number 7 shirt in honor of Atsu.
The body of Christian Atsu, the former Ghana international footballer who died in a devastating earthquake in Turkey, was flown home on Sunday.
The mortal remains of the Hatayspor winger was recovered on Saturday after he was trapped under rubble two weeks ago.
The 31-year-old winger had been playing for the Turkish club since September.
Speaking about the FA’s plan to retire the number 7 jersey, the Executive Council Member of the football governing body said;
“The Executive council of the FA is thinking about of a lot of things; some think the number 7 jersey must be retired in honour of Atsu, but there should be a meeting to decide.” Linford stated
The winger played 65 times for Ghana’s national team and helped his side reach the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final.
