Former Ghanaian striker, Dan Owusu has called on the Ghana Football Association and the government to honor the old Black Stars players before they can win the AFCON title again.
The ex-Bofoakwa Tanor player was praised by the football-loving fans in Ghana during his youthful stage. His magical performances helped him to win three Ghana Premier League top scorer awards.
He had a great partnership with the late Kwasi Owusu in the striking department on the pitch.
But according to him, the retired footballers have been rejected by the government and the Ghana Football Association.
He called on the nation to honor them whiles they are alive during an interview with Nimdeɛ FM in Sunyani.
“We are not cursing anyone but they have to honor us before Black Stars can win the AFCON title. God knows what he is doing. We have to be honored whiles we are alive but they don’t remember us and we are very sad. Kwasi Owusu was working as a lotto forecaster in a kiosk before he died. Although they came to his funeral it wasn’t that good. We have to be honored whiles we are alive. Some of us may even need just ¢200 because of illness but there is no help.
“We love you Akufo-Addo because you are a sportsman. You can even call us all and give us something at the end of every month. They shouldn’t wait for us to die before they will give our families ¢2,000, ¢5,000, or ¢10,000. It cannot help but maybe it can help the person to survive when he was struggling and live long. I will urge them to check on us because it is very important.”
