Coach Michael Osei cited “lack of concentration” as the reason for Gold Stars’ tendency to drop points from winning positions against Hearts of Oak on week 21 of the BetPawa Premier League at the Dun’s Park.
The Golden Boys looked set to be heading to the top four in the Premier League thanks to Evans Owusu’s early minutes strike, but Michael Osei’s team were pegged back by Isaac Mensah in the dying embers of the game to make the scoreline 1-1.
There was no question Gold Stars were the superior side on the day but when asked for his verdict, the trainer admitted to mixed emotions.
In a post-match interview, Gold Stars boss Michael Osei explained his disappointment with his side over the lack of concentration in the draw against the Phobians.
“I’m very disappointed but that is football for you. I mean it was a game that we deserved the three points but sometimes it happens like that. We were very organized and leading by 1-0. We controlled the game and the opponents couldn’t get many opportunities but very unfortunate that we conceded that last minute goal with the lack of concentration.
“We were supposed to be focused, disciplined and defend that goal but it has happened. There’s nothing that we can do. We need to learn something from it and then make sure it won’t happen next time,” Coach Michael Osei told StarTimes after the game.
