Ghanasportspage.com has selected four young footballers making waves in the Ghanaian top-flight.
For players to be considered for this list, they had to be under 23 years of age, ensuring this list focussed on the most youthful talent.
Here’s a look at young Ghanaian players making waves in the ongoing campaign.
Afriyie Mezack (19) – Berekum Chelsea
This talented young forward has hit the ground running ever since he was given the opportunity to play in the Ghanaian top-flight.
The enterprising forward is currently leading the top scorers chat with 10 goals.
He played in the Access Bank Division One League last season but he has become an integral member of the Blues in his first season of the BetPawa Premier League.
It will be no surprise to see Afriyie winning the golden boot in the ongoing campaign.
He has disclosed admiration for Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
“I look up to Messi and Mbappe in y football career” Afriyie told Kaakyire FM in an interview.
Commenting further during the interview, Afriyie, who is currently leading the goal king race, said he wants to at least score 20 goals at the end of the season.
“I am aiming of scoring above 20 goals before the Ghana Premier League ends”
Richard Dzikoe (22) – Kotoku Royals
The 22-year-old forward has been excellent for relegation battling side, Kotoku Royals so far, scoring 6 goals in his debut GPL campaign.
He is the team’s all-time top scorer, having helped them to secure a place in the Ghanaian top-flight for the first in 2022 after bagging more than 12 goals in the Access Bank Division One during the 2021/22 campaign.
He is destined to be a great player for the debutants and may even surpass other players on the top scorers chat.
The 22-year-old forward is having a dream season so far, looks hungry for more and will surely excel to attract top clubs in the next transfer window.
Abass Samari (18) – Accra Lions
Accra Lions have once again succeeded in producing a world class midfielder in the ongoing campaign.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been in an excellent form for the Accra side this season.
The Ghana U-20 player has scored 8 goals in his last 9 appearances for the GPL side so far and will surely be an asset for the Lions.
He is the top scorer of the club in the ongoing Premier League. They are second on the league table with 34 points – five points behind leaders Aduana Stars.
Top clubs in the Ghanaian top-flight will keep a close eye on the youngster, but the Lions will surely do their best to hold onto their prized player and find him a bumper deal in Europe.
Issah Kukah (21) – Real Tamale United (On loan from Hearts of Oak)
The youngster has been a key player for RTU in recent weeks, having netted seven goals in fourteen games and sitting fourth in the GPL scoring charts, three goals behind the leading scorer, Mezack Afriyie.
Issah Kukah is most likely to make a return to Hearts of Oak at the end of the season after proving that his skills are still influential at the topmost levels of football in the ongoing campaign.
The 20-year-old attacker earned promotion to Hearts’ first team from Auroras years ago.
But with opportunities under Coach Samuel Boadu limited, he was given permission to join RTU on loan last year.
However, the loan stint at RTU has proved fruitful and has clearly developed his game in the ongoing campaign.
