Kotoku Royals forward, Francis Andy Kumi says injuries disrupted his stay with Asante Kotoko.
The 23-year-old attacker joined the reigning Ghanaian champions in the second transfer window during the 2020/21 league season from Unistar Soccer Academy following a stellar spell in the Ghana Division One.
He struggled with the Porcupine Warriors. He was, however, demoted to squad player due to injuries last season in which Kotoko were crowned champions.
But he seems to have gained acclaim for his attacking ability. He has already hit the ground running, scoring six for his new club, Kotoku Royals in eight league games after joining them from Bechem United.
He scored his debut goal for the Royals against his former side, Asante Kotoko in Kumasi before getting a brace in his second match for the side against Bibiani Gold Stars to ensure a 3-2 win for the Oda-based outfit.
During his time with the Porcupine Warriors, he only scored 4 goals in 16 matches and in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com, Andy Kumi was very honest about why his form fell apart at Asante Kotoko. He also disclosed the secret to his current form.
“I struggled with Asante Kotoko because of injuries. I joined Bechem United but they didn’t give me a playing time. I decided to change and signed for Kotoku Royals. Things are going on well for me now. There’s no other secret to it but it is about hard-working, determination and prayers,” he stated.
Andy Kumi failed to make a single appearance for the Porcupine Warriors in the 2021-22 season. He made the bench for only five times before his contract was terminated in August last year.
He was included in the Black Stars provisional man squad for 2021 AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome but was subsequently dropped from the final list.
