Defending champions of the Ghana Premier League, Kumasi Asante Kotoko were held to another 1-1 draw by Legon Cities at the El Wak Stadium on Thursday.
The reigning Ghanaian champions made the trip to the nation’s capital looking to bounce back to winning ways in the ongoing campaign. The two clubs drew 1-1 in their first meeting at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The game was Coach Abdul Gazale’s first major test after the club parted ways with Coach Seydou Zerbo.
The Porcupine Warriors were fortunate not to drop points again but Alex Aso’s goal saw the two clubs playing out another 1-1 draw in the ongoing campaign.
Kotoko set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with John Tedeku starting from defense alongside Mohammed Alhassan, Sherrif Mohammed and Augustine Agyapong – Matheus Medieros and Steven Mukwala in a two up front. Lamptey, Richard Boadu Agadas, Eric Zeze and Sherrif Mohammed were paired in midfield.
The Porcupine Warriors took the lead in the 17th minute from the penalty spot through captain Richard Boadu Agadas.
An open second half saw chances fall for both sides, but it was Legon Cities who scored in the 70th minute to make it 1-1.
Legon Cities’ equaliser came after the visitors had regained some momentum, but it was avoidable for Kotoko.
Steven Mukwala should have put Kotoko ahead again to snatch the maximum over Maxwell Konadu’s side in the 90th minute with a great chance but he fluffed it.
As a result, the Porcupine Warriors remain sixth with 35 points. Legon Cities are 15th with 28 points, level on point with relegation battling sides, King Faisal and Great Olympics.
Kotoko will host RTU at home on week 25. This will be the reverse fixture of week 8’s encounter which they suffered a 2-1 defeat in Tamale.
