The Black Queens of Ghana overcame the Lioness of Senegal with a 3-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium in an international friendly on Saturday.
Ghana dominated the match from the start with non-stop attacks on Senegal defence, an intensity that led to a quick opener. Gifty Assifuah got a rebound from Evelyn Badu to register the first goal, bringing the score to 1-0 in the 2nd minute.
The early strike fuelled the Ghana squad, who increased the lead just six minutes later via Grace Asantewaa’s powerful strike.
The Black Queens continued to enjoy regular shots on goal, and Gifty Assifuah scored her second goal in the 45th minute to make it 3-0 before halftime.
Goalkeeper Cynthia Fiindib was the highlight of the second half with excellent saves that kept the Lioness from closing the gap as the game ended 3-0 in favour of the Black Queens.
Ghana will host the Lioness again on Tuesday at the same venue for the second friendly game.
This friendly forms part of the team’s rebuilding process for Coach Nora Hauptle to assess her team for future assignments.
The Black Queens recently defeated Benin 3:0 in an international friendly at Stade de l’Amitie in Cotonou as part of the process to build a strong team for competitions such as, the WAFU Cup of Nations and the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers.
