Asante Kotoko came from behind to secure an impressive 2-1 win over league leaders, Aduana Stars in the BetPawa Premier League on Sunday.
Aduana Stars arrived at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a bid to extend the lead on the league table but found themselves pinned back at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Ogya Boys had a bright start in the first half and went ahead with Isaac Mintah’s 26th minute goal, but Coach Gazale’s men drew level in the 38th minute through Steven Mukwala.
Having levelled the scoreline before break, Asante Kotoko took control of the game in the early stages of the second and managed to get the second goal with a magnificent strike from Ivorian international, Eric Zeze.
The Porcupine Warriors did not take the foot off the gas after snatching the lead. They kept their calm and defended well to get back to winning ways.
Before the game, Coach Gazale made five changes to the squad that suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Berekum Chelsea last time out. Frederick Asare earned the starting berth ahead of Danlad Ibrahim.
Yusif Mubarik and Maxwell Agyemang were also given the green light to start in defence.
Captain Richard Boadu Agadas and Eric Zeze also returned to the team after missing the team’s last game through suspension.
Isaac Oppong was out through injury. Mohammed Alhassan was also dropped from the starting XI.
The win has lifted the defending champions into fourth with 42 points – level on point with their noisy rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, who rank fifth.
Aduana Stars remain on top with 47 points in the Premier League standings despite dropping points against the Porcupine Warriors.
