Tamale City FC held defending champions Asante Kotoko to a 1-1 draw at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday in an entertaining matchday 29 clash in the BetPawa Premier League.
Rocky Dwamena gave Asante Kotoko the lead in the 36th minute before Yahaya Mohammed levelled in the 40th minute.
The Porcupine Warriors had lost their previous Premier League game to Accra Great Olympics and were hoping to get back on track.
They started the contest at a blistering pace, and after just seven minutes, Shadrack Addo almost opened the scoring. His powerful strike was denied by the crossbar.
The chance seemed to spark Coach Abdulai Gazale’s side into life as they snatched the lead during the 36th minute but the visitors responded four minutes later with
Yahaya Mohammed’s beautiful header.
An open second half saw chances fall for both sides, but neither Kotoko nor Tamale City could find a winner.
The match was an evenly balanced affair in both halves. Mohammed Hamzah will be satisfied for picking up another valuable point to keep their hopes of staying in the league alive.
The Citizens remain 15th on the league table with 36 points, Kotoko in 5th position with 43 points – seven points behind leaders Aduana Stars.
