Ampem Darkoa Ladies are the champions for the 2022/2023 Malta Guinese Women’s Premier League season after beating Hasaacas Ladies 5-4 on penalties to claim a second successive title.
Both teams pulled a masterclass performance on Friday at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in a nerve-racking final which was decided on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Hasaacas Ladies lost last season’s title to same opponents but it was another bad day for Yusif Basigi and his girls.
Doris Boaduwaa’s 68th minute goal had threatened to end Ampem Darkoa’s dominance, before Ophelia Serwaa Ampnonsah levelled things up late on as the game ended 1-1.
The defense of the two teams were resolute throughout the game as they held it tight to send the game into extra time.
After 30 minutes of action, the Northern Zonal champions carried the day 5-4 on penalties to grab their 4th Premier League title in style.
The win certifies Ampem Darkoa as Ghana’s representative in next seasons WAFU B qualifiers for the TotalEnergies Women’s CAF Champions League.
