The Ghana Football Association disciplinary committee has banned Asante Kotoko Midfielder Nicholas Mensah for a year.
Aduana Stars lodged a complaint with the GFA against Kotoko and the player for identity fraud and falsification of documents in January.
The club averred that the player had fraudulently been registered by Asante Kotoko and also had multiple names and did not have the legal documentation to change his name.
The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana FA rejected Aduana Stars’ request to punish Asante Kotoko for illegal player registration, stating that Mensah’s former club, Dumasua Delsanco FC, was responsible for the offence. The GFA Prosecutor later found Mensah guilty and suspended him from football for a year.
Asante Kotoko has responded to the Ghana FA disciplinary committee’s decision on Mensah.
“Asante Kotoko SC notes the decision of the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA to issue a one-year ban from all football and football-related activity to Nicholas Mensah with a retrospective effect from 10th February 2023. The club will review the verdict before considering our next steps”. Kotoko stated it on their website.
