Aduana Stars’ hopes of winning their first Premier League title since 2017 suffered another setback after losing 3-0 to stubborn Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium on week 31.
The league leaders arrived in Accra in their quest to extend the lead but goals from Baba Salifu Apiiga, Evans Botchway and Seidu Basit helped the Lions to secure the maximum points.
It is Accra Lions first win after three games in the BetPawa Premier League.
Coach Paa Kwasi Fabin’s side will drop to the second position on the league table depending on the results from the game between Medeama SC and Accra Hearts of Oak.
Medeama will occupy the first place with a point gap if they are able to beat the Rainbows in Accra.
Elsewhere, Bechem United also earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Legon Cities at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.
After losing their previous game, the Hunters did what they needed to do to boost their chances of winning the title. Emmanuel Avornyo was the match-winner thanks to his 36th minute strike.
With 51 points, Bechem United are just one-point away from the top spot.
They will continue to push forward to battle Medeama SC and Aduana Stars for the league title with three games to spare.
