Ghana Premier League side Accra Hearts of Oak have been a pale shadows of themselves in the current league campaign, falling to even clubs considered minnows who wouldn’t have survived the might of the premier league pioneers, and striker Albert Diego Dieudonne Eonde has clarified why the club’s recent performance should not surprise people.
Hearts of Oak have won just 12 of their last 31 premier league matches played, drawn 9 and lost 10, accumulating just 45 points out of possible 93 and currently sit 8th in the league standings. The situation seem to have been worsened by a humiliating 1-5 defeat at home to Medeama Sporting club on Sunday, which aided the Tarkwa based club dislodge leaders Aduana Stars from the summit of the league log.
In an interview with ghanasportspage.com, Hearts of Oak striker Albert Diego Dieudonne Eonde explained reasons why the record FA Cup winners have endured a struggling season till date, and suggested what could be done to turn things around in the following season.
The Cameroonian striker admitted the club’s performance this season has not been worthy of praise, and blames it on too many new faces in the team this season.
”It’s true that our recent games we haven’t been performing”, Diego started. what I believe is that when given time it will be a very good team that can compete in the league, winning the league and be successful in Africa, because I guess most of us are almost new to the team so clearly, we are coming from different teams and I think most of the players here are new for this season especially, so I believe with time if the same players are kept together it can be a good deal for the team’’, he said.
Albert Diego Dieudonne Eonde joined the Phobians in February this year in the middle of the current league season, and has since failed to open a goal account despite having featured prominently in the league matches.
