Not defending the league title with Champion Club Asante Kotoko is not something which prevents the Fabulous club from setting new targets and yes, the coach of the club just highlighted it. Kotoko could manage only a point with bottom club Karela at the Baba Yara which totally ended their hopes of clinching the league title, which went against the permutations by the coach earlier on as he was still hoping to defend the title.
In a post-match interview Gazelle revealed that having lost the opportunity to win the title and with two matches to go, the new target is to place at least second or third position in the league. He believes this is achievable despite a disappointing 1-1 draw with Karela which he however drew lessons from.
“This has been one of the difficult tasks this season. We find it difficult to win two matches on the go, but I won’t say I’m disappointed. We played better than Karela but could not win. So many things happened on the pitch and the league is over for Kotoko. We hope to prepare strongly and start next season with a mentality of going for the title”
“Medeama was second last year and are about to win so we are challenged to at least place second or third on the table(that will challenge us to win the trophy back”, the acting head coach revealed.
Kotoko next visits Accra as guests of Accra Lions before ending the season with a crunch match against Dreams FC. The Porcupines sit at the 4th place of the league table with 48 points behind leaders Medeama who have 56 points, Aduana with 52 and Bechem with 51 in that order.
