Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Fabio Dos Santos Gama has opened up on his reasons for leaving the record Ghana Premier League winners, following almost two seasons spell with the Kumasi based club.
Gama joined Asante Kotoko in October 2021 prior to the start of the 2020/2021 league where he will go on to play for the club for two seasons. The Brazilian made his debut for the Porcupine Warriors on Sunday, December 27, 2020, when he came off the bench in the 81st minute against Medeama SC in Tarkwa, replacing Godfred Asiamah.
On July 7, 2022, Asante Kotoko announced the departure of Gama following the expiration of his contract, which he failed to renew.
Following the departure of the Brazilian midfielder, it was speculated in the local media that he left due to low salary at Asante Kotoko, and the club’s inability to meet his financial demands. Speaking exclusively with ghanasportspage.com, Gama has opened up on his salary structure at Asante Kotoko, and the actual reasons why he left the Ghana Premier League giants.
”No, that’s not true”, Gama debunked financial reasons for his departure. ”The salary at Asante Kotoko was not bad, I can tell you it was not so fantastic but also not so bad. For me it was good, the salary was good for me and my family”, Gama clarified to Ghana’s no.1 sports portal, Ghanasportspage.com.
On reasons for leaving Asante Kotoko, Gama insisted that his decision was purely to seek for a new challenge elsewhere, where he would experience a different weather after speaking with his family.
”I left Kotoko because I wanted to change the weather. Because I had played in Ghana for two seasons, so I talked to my family and we decided to change club. We wanted to change to another league in another country, we wanted to try another league in another that was why I left Asante Kotoko”, Gama stated.
In July 2022, Fabio Gama officially joined Bahraini side Muharraq Club Muharraq Club on a reported two-year deal.
