FC Zurich forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh produced a standout performance in Black Meteors 3-0 victory over Division One League side, Uncle T United on Thursday morning in a test match ahead of the upcoming U-23 AFCON tournament to be held in Morocco.
The Ghana U-23 side brushed off the Division One League through Goodwin Bentil’s brace and Afriyie Barnieh’s first half strike.
The ex-Phobian broke the virginity of the game after 20 minutes with an expertly taken spot kick.
Barnieh responded positively by scoring a penalty to give Ibrahim Tanko’s men the lead after he was brought down in the goal area.
The Meteors kept pressing high for the second goal but it was Uncle T FC who came closer to equalizing with a quick counter but Jordan Amissah was up to the task.
Godwin Bentil increased the tally for the Black Meteors with a simple tap-in after initiating a quick move from the right. He turned around his marker, teased the goalkeeper from the post to set up Afriyie Barnieh for a goal but Barnieh returned the ball for Bentil to tap in a simple one to give Ghana a 2-0 lead.
Bentil grabbed his second and the third for the Meteors five minutes after the break by connecting nicely to a pass from Samuel Ashie-Quaye who came in from the bench.
Moments after Bentil’s second strike, Afriyie Barnieh accurately put through Zuberu Ibrahim who could have made it four for the Meteors but delayed play to allow the opponents time to cover.
The Meteors are expected to fly out of Ghana early next week to start a training camp in Egypt to prepare for the U23 AFCON Tournament to be played in Morocco later this month.
