Alhaji Grusah’s King Faisal, Kotoku Royals and Tamale City FC have been relegated from the BetPawa Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 season.
The final day of the season started with six teams (Hearts of Oak, Karela United, Great Olympics, Legon Cities, Accra Lions and Tamale City FC) hoping to avoid relegation.
Although it was the last match day for the season, there was no shortage of excitement as both ends of the table drew attention but the bottom ranks caught the spotlight.
The three relegated teams will be playing in the second tier of Ghana football next season with all having tasted life in the Division One League before.
Kotoku Royals, who secured promotion to the Ghanaian top-flight last season became the first team to suffer relegation after week 29.
The Akyem Oda-based side suffered from their inability to complete their home venue – forcing the club to adopt the Cape Coast.
Playing away from home accounted for their early exit from the top-flight after promises made to the club were unfulfilled.
The Royals shifted between two home venues after adopting the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu during the latter stages of the season.
The Oda-based club finished the season at the bottom place with 26 points from 34 games.
Elsewhere, Tamale City also head to the Division One ranks after falling into the relegation zone of the Premier League on the final day.
The Premier League debutants, thus join the Royals and King Faisal as they make their way out from the Ghanaian top-flight.
King Faisal ended the season with 42 points. Their 1-0 victory over RTU on the final day at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium wasn’t enough to save them from the drop.
At the Akoon, Tamale City were dealt a major blow as they fell to the league Champions Medeama SC 3-0, a result which denied them the chance to stay in the league, while Kotoko Royals suffered a 3-1 defeat at their own backyard against Karela United.
