Head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton has admitted that he is impressed with Hafiz Konkoni’s performance after the team’s second training session in Accra.
The 23-year-old, who enjoyed a brilliant campaign in the just ended Premier League season has been impressing in training for Ghana ahead of their AFCON qualifier clash with Madascr.
The attacker played a key role in helping Bechem United to secure the third position on the league table after scoring 15 goals.
His brilliant perfornce earnerd him a late call-up to the join the Black Stars for the game against the AFCON 2019 quarter-finalists, which makes him the first local player to be selected by Coach Chris Hughton.
“I was fortunate to watch him live last weekend. I have been able to watch him on video. I thought he did well today [in training]. It wasn’t a surprise because he is a player I have enjoyed watching. He is a young player, so I think he has a lot of development still. Speaking to him, I think he is quite a mature player for his age,” Chris Hughton told the press in Tuesday.
Konkoni will be hoping to make his national team debut when the Black Stars take on the Barea in Antananarivo.
The four-time African champions will travel to Madagascar on June 18, 2023, as they aim to preserve their top spot in Group E of the qualifiers.
Hughton’s side currently sits at the top of Group E, which also contains Angola and the Central African Republic.
