The Black Meteors of Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw in their international friendly with Egypt at the Alexandria Stadium on Thursday.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side took the lead through Daniel Afriyie Barnieh’s goal from the spot kick during the 7th minute in the first half. The FC Zurich forward took his time before finishing past the goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim came up big in goal with a big save in the 20th minute after the referee whistled for a penalty in favour of the hosts.
However, Ghana’s lead was cancelled out by Ibrahim Adel on the 30th minute.
The game forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the upcoming U-23 AFCON to be held in Morocco.
The West African side started the game with a squad that includes Danlad Ibrahim, Fatawu Issahaku, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Aaron Essel, Samuel Ashie Quaye, Dominic Nsobila, Samari Abass, and Zubairu Ibrahim.
Ghana switched camp from the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram to Egypt as they step up preparations for the tournament which will be staged from June 24- July 8, 2023.
The team will also take on an Egyptian Club in a test game before travelling to Morocco for the tournament.
After years of absence from the Olympic Men’s Soccer event, Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his charges are poised to break the jinx and seal a slot to compete in next year’s Olympics Games which will be staged in Paris, France.
