Hearts of Oak defender, Caleb Amankwah has disclosed the reason why the club were not able to score goals after the exit of Serbian tactician, Slavko.
The Rainbows struggled for large periods last season but the 25-year-old centre-back, who played with injury was able to stand in and appeared as one of the best defenders in the league.
Caleb came to the rescue of his team on important occasions in the just-ended league season, scoring late to snatch points against Kotoku Royals after denying Kotoko victory in Kumasi. He showcased his skill of scoring goals when the strikers were struggling to do the job.
In an interview with Ghanasportspage.com, the defender revealed how the presence of Slavko Matic changed the character of some players and credited him for his increased efficiency in front of goal this season and upturn.
“Every coach has something different for his players. It helps the club and the player if you stick to it.
“My style of play changed a little bit after Slavko Matic’s arrival. The character of some players also changed on the field of play,” says Caleb.
“I was hoping that our strikers will be the best but we failed to meet and make it happen due to his exit. What he taught us helped me to connect some goals to rescue the club when we were down.
“I was okay with his presence but the management can only tell why they parted ways with him,” he ended.
