An unconfirmed report from the Ashanti Region has is that the bankroller of Asante Kotoko, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has ordered the dissolution of both the board and management, with Nana Yaw also leaving as the club’s Chief Executive Officer.
The decision follows the clubs trophyless campaign and abysmal performance in Africa last season.
The board, led by Dr. Kwame Kyei, was established in 2020, and Nana Yaw Amponsah was appointed as the head of the management team in August of the same year. Initially, their collaboration yielded success, with Asante Kotoko winning the Ghana Premier League title in their second season.
However, it seems that disagreements and conflicts have arisen between the management and the board. Dr. Kwame Kyei’s involvement with his own club, Nations FC, which earned promotion to the Ghana Premier League last season, appears to have diverted his attention away from Asante Kotoko.
In June, Nana Yaw Amponsah openly addressed the issues within the club’s leadership, acknowledging that the CEO-board chairman relationship was not as good as it was initially. Despite expressing personal respect for Dr. Kwame Kyei, the lack of effective communication and harmony became evident.
The trophyless campaign and the internal discord within the club’s leadership have reportedly led to the decision by Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II to dissolve both the board and the management team. This bold move signifies the club’s recognition of the need for a fresh start and a thorough evaluation of the club’s direction moving forward.
Asante Kotoko, known for their illustrious history and passionate fan base, now face the challenge of regrouping and rebuilding under new leadership.
The focus will be on finding individuals who can bring unity, stability, and a clear vision to guide the club back to success.
