Asante Kotoko coach Abdulai Gazelle pulled no punches this afternoon when a supporter kept making fun of him at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Gazelle, who led Asante Kotoko to a third-place finish in the just-ended GPL is also the sports Master of TI Ahmahdiya Senior High School in Kumasi and has been doing well in the competition until he was eliminated in the semi-finals. Simms SHS, a school founded by former Kotoko chairman Simms Kofi Barwuah eliminated the Gazelle-led team in the semi-finals In a 2-1 win to qualify for the finals, where they played Okess.
Interestingly, the Simms team is coached by Sandra Boakye, who played for Fabulous Ladies and Ghana’s female national teams.
Gazelle’s team played well but could still not avoid defeat, which was very bitter for the coach.
Some of the spectators at the stadium kept hooting at the Amass team after the match but one fan took it far and started following Gazelle around abusing him verbally that he is a Kotoko coach and so what and that he allowed a woman to defeat him. Gazelle felt offended and in an instant was forced to deliver some quick punches towards the fan who started screaming.
“Oh coach I am a phobia fan, I am a phobian”. Amass school is referred to as Phobians in Kumasi thus the fan had to plead to the coach not to hurt him as he support his team Amass but was just devastated losing despite being favourites. Gazelle was reportedly pulled away by some of his students and the technical team members around.
Eyewitnesses continued condemning the fan for the incident but also advised the coach to restrain himself on such occasions.
