Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum’s second stint as Asante Kotoko’s head coach has started taking shape ahead of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
The former WAFA trainer shockingly left the Porcupine Warriors before the start of last season as Nana Yaw Amponsah and his management team hired Burkina Faso tactician Seydou Zerbo as Ogum’s successor.
The Reds are in a new direction. Otumfour Osei Tutu II has formed an interim management committee with Ogum as a member.
Unpaid salaries and accommodation issues of Kotoko players have been sorted out as the great Asantehe places much importance on player welfare.
The 2021/22 Ghana Premier League winning coach has been tasked to rebuild Asante Kotoko and so far two first-team signings have been confirmed – Yahaya Dawuni and Nanabayin Amoah.
What we notice is that Ogum continues his total belief in unknown quality footballers; Yahaya Dawuni and Nanabayin Amoah are not big names in the Ghana Premier League but Ogum is a believer of talent.
The learned trainer had some really quality rookies such as Isaac Oppong on his team in his maiden season in Kumasi. Oppong had joined from Bectero Sasana , a second-division side based in Sunyani and the outcome was successful as the winger quickly became an important first team player.
With Dawuni and Amoah done, maybe Ogum is about to pull out another surprise in the upcoming season.
