Abdul Salam Yakubu , the President of Division One League side New Edubiase United , believes George Afriyie has what it takes to win the 2023 Ghana Football Association Presidential elections slated for 27th September.
Afriyie , a former vice-president of the GFA , and incumbent GFA boss Kurt Okraku are the only presidential candidates for the upcoming elections.
“I am still part of the George Afriyie camp because I believe his leadership qualities would have helped our football to grow to a greater level than what we are currently seeing. We need someone who will unite the football family , someone who will develop our game and that is George Afriyie. He will win the elections. ” , Abdul Salam Yakubu said on Fox FM.
The New Edubiase United president continued :
“I know a lot of things George did in football and that is why I am saying that. I am an investor in the game and if things are moving well , look I will not be a hypocrite and say otherwise but the truth is that our game has not improved to the expected level.”
“Someone like Kurt Okraku and his team who went for a 2million USD sponsorship and then set aside 1 million for the sponsors to use to promote the league. As if that was not enough , they then share less than 50% for the 18 clubs and this same person gets applause from Congress members. “
“Sometimes I don’t understand the other club owners. What is the extraordinary achievement of Kurt. Is is the borehole project he is doing with FIFA funds . Taking FIFA monies and using it to boreholes is an easy job , anyone at all can do that.” , he added.
