Medeama SC defeated Remo Stars of Nigeria on penalties to reach the second round of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League on Sunday.
The Yellow and Mauves lost the second leg match by 1-0 at the Remo Stars stadium. As the tie ended 1-1 , penalty shootouts were used the break the equality and it is the champions of Ghana that carried the day with a 3-2 success.
This is the first time a Ghanaian side has secured a Champions League qualification on a foreign land since Berekum Chelsea did so in 2014 against South Sudan side Atlabara FC. The Blues won 2-0 in Ghana and lost the second leg by the same margin as they went ahead to win the ensuing penalty kicks.
Medeama will now meet Horoya AC of Guinea in the second round.
