Former Black Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak right back Samuel Inkoom has hopped into a solidarity defence of Black Stars under fire defender, Baba Rahman, calling on Ghanaians to have patience for him.
Baba has come under sterling attack from most Ghanaians who have not been impressed with the former Chelsea star’s performance, and have always called for his expulsion from the current Black Stars squad. Baba had to endure lots of booing from the home fans during the Black Stars AFCON qualifier match against Central African Republic (C.A.R) on Thursday at the Baba Yara stadium, for a performance which never impressed most fans of the national team.
Reacting to the backlash against his former national team mate, Baba, Inkoom has urged Ghanaians to exercise patience as Baba has gotten more time on his side to develop.
“Everybody has a bad day. Sometimes let’s take for instance football into account. Talking about Baba Rahman, he is young, he has every time to develop”, Inkoom told ghanasportspage.com.
Inkoom asked for some time to allow Baba Rahman to improve upon his performance to the admiration of the world.
“I am just begging Ghanaians that we have to have time for such players”, he pleaded.
Inkoom admits that everyone has their own way of judging the output of a player, but he believes that mostly this judgment is based on who is a favourite player to the critique. He states, that what matters is for the Black Stars to progress as a team.
“Everybody has their own opinion, everybody has his own way of judging a player, everyone has his favourite but the most important thing for we Ghanaians is that we want the team (Black Stars) to progress”.
Baba, 29, was subbed off in the second half of Ghana’s 2-1 win over C.A.R, replacing him with Gideon Mensah who many believes is the befitting player to start for Ghana at the left back position which is being handled by Baba.
It is however almost a certainty that baring and injury scare, Baba will make Ghana’s final squad for the AFCON in January next year at Ivory Coast, but time will determine who becomes Ghana’s regular left back.
