The Confederation of Africa Football(CAF), the ruling body of the game of football on the African continent has released the official video of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations theme song, “Akwaba”, for next year’s AFCON which will be held in Ivory Coast. It is a perfectly directed video by the experienced Tony Rodriguez with shots of the 60,000 capacitor Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Felix Houphouet Boiny International Airport, Ivorian foods, captivating buildings as well as the splendid streets of Abidjan. A collaboration of Ivorian music band, Magic System, Mohammed Ramadan(Egyptian singer and rapper) and Yemi Alade(Nigerian songstress) who nailed it, made the song a delight to listen to aside the captivating video.
Despite the positives of the song and the video, the absence of Africas most-decorated rapper Sarkodie, fans’ favourite- Shatta Wale and multiple award-winning dancehall artiste- Stonebwoy in CAFs theme songs and entertainment programmes over the period has got Ghanaians talking and dissatisfied with CAFs choice of entertainers.
