Asante Kotoko SC defeated RTU 1-0 in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors entered this contest on the back of a 0-d draw with Great Olympics on week 15. RTU posed less of a threat than Kotoko were to themselves for much of the game, given the amount of chances that were squandered by the hosts before Steven Mukwala eventually scored the winning goal from spot after Baba Yahaya was fouled in the opponent’s penalty box.
Richmond Lamptey built on his last display againts Hearts and Olympics with another solid performance against the Notherners. The midfielder was a commanding presence with the way he carried the ball across the pitch and balanced his defensive and offensive duties.
A win for RTU would have earned them a little bit of breathing space from the relegation zone as they prepare to face Great Olympics in their last game of the secon half.
Mukwala will take the headlines with his winning goal today, but that, along with the three points, are merely an accessory to his early feats on foreign soil in a bid to win the golden boot.
Kotoko, currently sixth and just three points away from the top spot, understand the significance of securing this points to celebrate the Christmas. Their unbeaten run showcased their resolve to stay in the title chase.
