Asante Kotoko captain, Richmond Lamptey has shown gratitude to the Ghanaian sports media for his inclusion in the 55 provisional squad Black Stars squad for the AFCON 2023.
The midfielder in recent weeks have been exceptional for the Porcupine Warriors in the Ghana Premier League.
In view of that, a lot of supporters and sports journalists in the Ghanaian football fraternity called for his inclusion in the Black Stars ahead of the AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.
The former Inter Allies talisman’s name, including other 10 local players were part of the 55 provisional squad list coach Chris Hughton submitted to CAF.
The player who has 4 assists put up a man of the match display in their 1-0 win against Real Tamale United in match day 16 of the Ghana Premier League.
Speaking after the game, he expressed his joy and thanked the media for calling for his inclusion into the Black Stars setup ahead of the AFCON in Ivory Coast.
“That’s true, I’m thankful to the media for seeing my talent and pushing for my inclusion.” He said.
He added that he will do his best and not get complacent after the call-up.
“It (call-up) won’t let me lose focus. I will continue to work hard to reach my target.” He said.
The final 27 man-squad for the AFCON will be out by 3rd January 2023.
