Former Head Coach of the Black Stars, James Kwesi Appiah has asked Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton to take bold decisions when it comes to team selection for games at the AFCON 2023.
The Black Stars have been housed in Group B alongside record winners Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique for the tournament earmarked to take place in Ivory Coast from 13th January 2024. Hughton named his final 27 man-squad on 1st January 2024 with the inclusion of three local-based players.
The current Head Coach for the Sudan national men’s team says the squad is a good one but Chris Hughton should take bold decisions in selecting the right players for games.
“I think we’ve got a good squad. I’m in support of the players selected by the coach for the tournament but the only thing I am hoping for is the coach being bold to take decisions as to who should play or who should be on the bench and ones he is able to the do that, looking at the list I think they can compete at any level” he told Sienu TV.
The four-time African Champions Ghana will be hoping to improve on their last performance in the AFCON where they were eliminated in the group stages.
