Host of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, The Elephants of Ivory Coast beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0 to win the first game of the tournament.
Played at the Alassane Quattara stadium in Abidjan on Saturday night, Ivory Coast secured their first three points in Group A.
Seko Fofana netted a powerful shot in the 4th minute against Guinea Bissau to give the Ivorians the lead. Decent chances were created by both teams especially Guinea-Bissau but they could not utilize them.
In the second half, Ivory Coast doubled their lead kind courtesy a brilliant acrobatic goal by Jean-Philippe Krasso in the 58th minute.
In the second round of games, Ivory Coast will lock horns with Nigeria while Guinea-Bissau will hope to redeem themselves against Equatorial Guinea.
