Veteran football administrator, Takyi Arhin has reacted to the sports promises made by His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Addressing Ghanaians on Wednesday February 7, 2024, to unveil his vision for Ghana, Dr. Bawumia said Ghana sports has not realised its potentials, and he identified inadequate and lack of sustainable funding as a major hindrance.
One of the key highlights of his vision is the creation of the Ghana School Sports Secretariat, an agency under the sports ministry, aimed at driving grassroots development through school-based initiatives. He also emphasized collaboration with stakeholders such as the GES and sports federations to realize this ambitious project.
The Vice President, however, promised to abolish the contentious 10% tax on sports betting and lotteries if elected as president in the upcoming 2024 elections.
In an interview with Accra-based Mothers FM, Takyi Arhin confidently asserted that he will not be surprised if the flag bearer of the ruling party fails to fulfil his promises due to his track records.
“If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. Bawumia is part of the current government as head of economic management team. He needs to be blamed. He can’t decouple himself from the current happenings in the economy. There are a whole lot of broken promises made by Bawumia. How is the exchange rate now or traveling and buying a car with Ghana Card? We don’t take his promises serious again.
“He has failed to fulfil his promises. What shows that he can do it in sports. I won’t be surprised if he fails because I know his track records.”
