Former Black Stars manager James Kwasi Appiah has indicated that he worked under new Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara.
According to Kwasi Appiah, he was appointed as Ouattara’s deputy when the Ivorian succeeded Malik Jabir at Asante Kotoko in 1993.
“After coach Malik left Kotoko coach Ouattara was made head coach and I as an assistant. I think it’s between 1993 – 1995.” He confirmed to ghanasportspage.com.
The confirmation by the Kotoko Management member is of importance as the coach is not new to the Ghanaian game and expected to use his experience ,which was considered before his appointment .
Aboubakar Ouattara was appointed as Hearts of Oak head coach on Friday, February 9, 2024.
The Phobians, in a press release, announced the appointment, noting that the manager has penned a two-and-half-year deal.
He was officially introduced to the players on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, and is now set to lead the team’s training in the days ahead.
Ouattara has a very pleasing résumé having worked with Wydad Athletic Club and TP Mazembe.
He worked as technical director at both clubs and ensured that the two teams won the CAF Champions League during his time.
He holds a CAF license A certificate and looks like the right man to turn the corner for Hearts of Oak, who have had a challenging 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League season.
Hearts of Oak sit 11th on the table with 21 points after 17 games.
