Retired Ghanaian footballer, John Paintsil has attributed the Black Stars’ abysmal display at the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire to lack of unity.
The four-time African champions were eliminated from the competition at the group stage after picking just two points in three matches.
Ghana’s performance at the tournament sums up how low standards fallen for the national.
In an interview with Utv, Paintsil said lack of unity and respect affected the team.
“The boys were not united. You can’t go to such tournament and expect your coach to play for you. How you want it, you will get it. There’s a lot of things they were lacking. Why Kudus’ movement was different from others when having the ball? There was too much individual brilliance but they did not play as a team. It will be difficult when you are not playing as a team.
“We could even close our eyes during our time and beat you before leaving the dressing room. We will predict to score 2-0 under 20 minutes because the respect and unity were there. There was no discrimination so sometimes players must take responsibilities. You are not a team player if you see your self as bigger than your teammates.”
