Ghana FA sets to add nine [9] new national football teams

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided to form a total of nine new national teams including boy and girls. 

The decision, which is in consultation with the Technical Directorate, is geared towards the full implementation of our football strategy and philosophy to develop Ghana Football.

The Executive Council has resolved to form four new developmental national teams for boys and five for girls. As a result, there will be (U-16, U-18, U-19 and U-21) for Boys and (U-16, U-18, U-19, U-21 & U-23) for Girls.

Currently, in addition to the senior male and female national teams, the Ghana FA has U17 and U20 for girls, and U17, U20 and U23 for boys for competitive competitions organised by CAF and FIFA.

The FA also has a U15 for both male and females for developmental purposes that serve as feeder national teams for the U17 in both categories.

The new national teams; U16, U18, U19 and U21 for boys and U16, U18, U19, U21 and U23 for girls will also be for developmental purposes to feed the competitive national teams.

This strategy will not only ensure a smooth transition of players from one age group to the next age group but also to ensure we do not lose out on talents on the national front.

It will also offer a lot more of our trained coaches (using the DNA) opportunities at the elite level.

Players from each of the age groups will progress to the next level year after year as they will camp, train and play games locally and internationally for their development.
