Ghana Black Stars have won only one game after ten successful matches played. Uganda twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Ghana in an international friendly at Grande de Stade Marrakech in Morocco on Tuesday.
The Black Stars went into the game looking to redeem themselves after losing to 2-1 Nigeria in another friendly on Friday. Otto Addo made five changes to his starting line up by bringing in Joseph Wollacott, Denis Odoi, Ebenezer Annan, Francis Abu and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku in place of Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Alidu Seidu, Forson Amankwah, Patrick Kpozo and Baba Iddrisu.
Ghana started the game on the front foot and opened the scoring through Jerome Opoku. The Turkey based defender headed in a well delivered corner kick from Jordan Ayew in the 7th minute. But Uganda swiftly responded after capitalizing on a penalty conceded by Ebenezer Annan, with forward Steven Mukwala converting to level the score in the 21st minute.
Jordan Ayew restored Ghana’s advantage from the spot inside 27 minutes but Uganda bounced back for the second time with the equalizer through substitute Muhammad Shaban in the 83rd minute.
Otto Addo made four substitutions by bringing on Mohammed Salisu, Forson Amankwah, Alidu Seidu and Tariq Lamptey and switched to a three-back with Tariq Lamptey and Ebenezer Anan operating as wing backs.
The Black Stars ended the game with nine-men following two red cards to Mohammed Salisu and Alidu Seidu in the final minutes of the game.
Captain Andre Ayew was later introduced as he came in for brother Jordan Ayew but his presence didn’t yield the desired result as Paul Put’s men held on for a 2-2 draw – extending Ghana’s winless run to seven games across competitions.
Ghana has so far played ten matches with only a win. Black Stars- last 10 game’s results are Ghana 2-2 Uganda, Nigeria 2-1 Ghana, Mozambique 2-2 Ghana, Egypt 2-2 Ghana , Ghana 1-2 Cape Verde, Ghana 0-0 Namibia , Comoros 1-0 Ghana, Ghana 1-0 Madagascar, USA 4-0 Ghana and Mexico 2-0 Ghana.
The two friendlies gave new coach Otto Addo an opportunity to assess his young squad in preparation for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic in June.
