The Ejisu township and it’s surrounding villages are said to have been calmed following the revelation that the former Ghana Football Association and CAF boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has responded positively to calls to contest the vacant Ejisu Constituency seat.
The peaceful constituency has been wailing following the demise of the Member of Parliament John Kumah after a short illness.
Kumah who was also the Deputy Minister of Finance is a likable character and his death threw the whole constituency and even Ghana into a state of shock and wailing.
While several people discussed the cause of his death at a relatively younger age of 45, the constituents especially the chiefs and elders, started asking who could replace him in Parliament and continue his good works.
It was in response to this that influential people of the constituency started knocking on the doors of the experienced Kwesi Nyantakyi to consider contesting in the by-election to replace John Kumah.
Ghanasoortspage.com has spotted the former FA president twice within the last week in the constituency . Sources of information put together indicate indeed he has met leaders of the New Patriotic Party and the family of John Kumah to console them.
He seems to positively respond to calls to contest for the elections and was hailed at the One Week rites for John Kumah during which Nyantakyi was seen among the big wigs of the NPP. He seems to be popular among the Ejisu people ,some of who told this website Nyantakyi stands tall and is the right person to replace John Kumah .
Kwesi hails from the Ejisu constituency and has been in touch with his hometown people of Kwaso, where his father Kwadwo Nyantakyi hails from. He is said to have been the brain behind several activities especially football competitions during Christmas and Easter since 2012.
A delegate from Onwe, also part of the constituency, disclosed during the funeral that they are petitioning leaders of the party to convince Kwesi to contest as he cuts across all party lines and is liked by many.
He said that despite their mourning state ,the Ejisu people are happy they have a heavy weight to replace John Kumah. The news of the football administrator and lawyer contesting seem to have also slowed down the idea of some potential candidates as they see Kwesi as a bigger opponent who should be supported to continue the good works of Kumah.
Nyantakyi took Ghana to three World Cups in 2006,2010, and 2014 and is credited with lots of changes and development in Ghana football.
In a related development, the NPP has released a statement asking potential candidates to pick forms and submit before the close of day this Thursday.
Nyantakyi is expected to pick and submit forms while continuing to have the backing and support of his constituents ,who see him as a unifier.
