Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has appealed to Ghanaians to exercise patience with Otto Addo as he embarks on his tenure as head coach of the national team.
Addo assumed the role of head coach prior to the March international break, overseeing Ghana’s matches against Nigeria and Uganda, resulting in a loss and a draw, respectively.
With Ghana facing a challenging period marked by a lack of victories in their recent outings, Gyan, who played alongside Addo at the 2006 World Cup, remains optimistic about his former teammate’s potential to steer the team in the right direction.
“Otto Addo has returned; it’s a different atmosphere and different players. Although he has worked with some of the players, I think it’s still a process,” Gyan remarked during an interview on Asempa FM. “He also came with a new staff so it’s a different era.”
Acknowledging the need for time and support for Addo’s rebuilding efforts, Gyan emphasized, “Let’s see what he also has for us. We will support him through his rebuilding to see where he can take us.”
Highlighting the importance of public opinion in evaluating Addo’s performance, Gyan urged fellow Ghanaians to grant the coach the necessary time and space to shape the team according to his vision.
“Ghanaians will be the ones to judge what he has done so I think we should give him time to rebuild his team,” Gyan added.
Otto Addo previously led the Black Stars during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where the team secured one victory out of three matches, failing to progress beyond the group stage despite notable efforts.
