Former Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor issues a plea to Asante Kotoko fans, urging patience and support for coach Prosper Narteh Ogum during the club’s challenging period in the Ghana Premier League.
As the Porcupine Warriors struggle to find their rhythm since the league’s resumption in February, managing just one win in the second round while suffering five losses and one draw, Akonnor emphasizes the need for patience and belief in Ogum’s capabilities.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Akonnor, a former coach of the Ghanaian giants, highlights Ogum’s track record and calls for solidarity from the fans. “I beg the fans to exercise patience, as Ogum has proven himself time and time again and we have faith in him to make things right.”
Acknowledging the collective responsibility of both players and coach in overcoming challenges, Akonnor stresses the importance of unity and cooperation within the team.
“Since the players are the primary actors in football, they must assist the coach… I asked the players to pay close attention to what the coach asks of them and improve their performance.”
Drawing parallels with successful teams that have demonstrated patience with their coaches, such as Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, Akonnor emphasizes the value of time and support in achieving success. “Teams that practice patience with their coach perform exceptionally well… Perhaps Ogum has more to accomplish and a year is insufficient.”
As Asante Kotoko currently sits 9th on the Ghana Premier League table with 34 points after 24 matches, Akonnor’s plea resonates with the club’s fans, highlighting the importance of unity and perseverance during challenging times.
