Former Black Stars defender Awal Mohammed has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Asante Kotoko, stating that he will never play for any other club in Ghana besides the Porcupine Warriors.
Awal, who previously played for Raja Casablanca, emphasized his deep-rooted allegiance to Kotoko, expressing his love for the club and his reluctance to wear the jersey of any other team in the country, regardless of any tempting offers.
Speaking about his dedication to Kotoko, Awal declared, “Currently, I am in Accra, and I’ve not stopped playing active football. I made a vow not to wear any other club’s jersey aside from that of Kotoko.
” I traveled, came back, and re-joined Kotoko, but looking at how things are going in Ghana, let’s state the fact that people don’t respect. I can decide to come and help the club but you’d get some people who will say a lot of bad things about you so you stay away from such things if you so much respect yourself and don’t want to be insulted.” He confirmed to ghanasportspage.com.
Despite acknowledging the challenges in Ghanaian football, Awal remained resolute in his stance, emphasizing his unwavering love for Kotoko.
“I’ve said it over and over again that if it’s not Kotoko, I will not play for any other club in Ghana, I said it the first time I was leaving the club for greener pastures and I don’t take back my words, had it not been that I could have registered for other clubs, even Accra Hearts of Oak and the likes but if it’s not the Kotoko jersey, I can’t play because I love the club, it’s a team I supported as a fan before joining them so the Kotoko blood runs through my veins”
Awal Mohammed joined Kotoko in the 2010/11 season from WAFA, then Feyenoord Academy, after completing his loan stint at ASEC Mimosas.
The 2015 AFCON runner-up with the Black Stars joined the South African side Maritzburg United in 2012 after impressive displays for the Porcupines.
He returned to Kotoko in the 2016/17 season for a second stint and was a key member of the team that won the President Cup and the FA Cup in 2017 before leaving the club to join Al-Fahaheel SC in 2018.
Awal Mohammed last played for Indian side Sreenidi Deccan FC in the 2021/22 season.
