Amidst Asante Kotoko’s tumultuous period, former striker Shilla Alhassan has added his voice to the growing chorus urging a change in leadership, specifically calling for coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to step down in light of the team’s recent struggles.
With the Porcupine Warriors currently positioned 11th in the Ghanaian top-flight standings, Alhassan believes Ogum must relinquish his role as head coach to pave the way for improvement.
“Kotoko fans demanding the sack of Prosper Ogum are right if the results are not coming as expected. To me, the fans of the club did well,” Alhassan expressed during an interview with Kessben FM.
Reflecting on the club’s current predicament, Alhassan stressed the importance of accountability and suggested that Ogum should follow the precedent set during his previous tenure.
“I think it will be prudent for Ogum to resign because things are not going as expected. If I were Ogum, I would have resigned from my role. I remember he did the same when he led the club to win the league title, so if things are not going well this time, he should do the same and call it quits,” Alhassan remarked.
As the pressure mounts on the coaching staff, Asante Kotoko is preparing to face log leaders, Samartex, in a crucial matchday 27 fixture of the Ghanaian top-flight on Sunday.
In response to the team’s struggles, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Life Patron of Asante Kotoko, has called for an emergency meeting to address the recent happenings within the club.
The meeting, scheduled for Thursday, April 19, 2024, will bring together the playing body and the Interim Management Committee to chart a path forward amidst the ongoing turmoil.
