Former Asante Kotoko captain, Amos Frimpong, has emphasized the impact of inexperience on the club’s performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.
Frimpong, now a coach at Division Two side Fast Track FC, believes that while the players possess talent, they lack the necessary experience to excel consistently for the club.
The Porcupine Warriors have encountered difficulties in the second round of the league, managing only four points from nine matches and currently occupying the eleventh position on the table.
“Inexperience is a significant factor affecting the team’s performance this season. Most of the players are talented, but it takes more than talent to succeed at a club like Kotoko,” Frimpong explained in an interview with Guide Radio.
Reflecting on a recent match he attended, Frimpong highlighted the contrast between former Kotoko players, who he described as having “seen it all,” and the current squad.
“I watched Kotoko play against Nations FC, and I noticed that some of the players lack the experience to handle certain situations effectively,” he elaborated. “For example, former Kotoko player Prince Acquah, who was playing for Nations FC, didn’t seem intimidated by the current Kotoko players because he has been through similar challenges.”
Frimpong attributed Kotoko’s recent performance to the inexperience of many players who have not yet encountered the demands of top-level football.
“So I will also attribute the recent performance of the team to inexperience of most of the players. There are good players but most of them are inexperienced and have not seen things like this before.”
Asante Kotoko will be aiming for a turnaround in fortunes when they face league leaders FC Samartex in their upcoming fixtures.
