In a gripping encounter at the Naa Sheriga Park, Karela United and Accra Lions battled to a thrilling 1-1 draw, leaving both teams with a point to show for their efforts.
The match kicked off with Accra Lions showing early attacking intent, but Karela United quickly asserted their presence with Fatawu Mohammed and Nurudeen Jibril testing the Lions’ defense.
Midway through the first half, Accra Lions’ goalkeeper Andrew Owusu showcased his agility with a fingertip save to deny Karela’s Mohammed Asigri, while Daniel Awuni threatened the Karela goal area with a testing effort.
After the halftime break, Owusu once again demonstrated his shot-stopping abilities to thwart Karela’s attempts to break the deadlock.
However, it was Karela United who struck first, with Asigri breaking the deadlock just after the hour mark with a well-taken goal from inside the box.
But their lead was short-lived as Dominic Amponsah leveled the scores for Accra Lions just four minutes later, capitalizing on Karela’s goalkeeper’s inability to deal with Bernard Kesse’s powerful strike.
Kesse himself came close to giving Lions the lead shortly after with his dazzling dribbling skills, but his final effort failed to trouble the Karela defense.
In the closing stages of the game, Baba Apiiga had a chance to snatch all three points for Lions, but his effort was thwarted by Karela’s determined defending.
Despite Karela’s late push for a winner, Accra Lions held firm in defense and posed a constant threat on the counterattack, ensuring both teams ultimately settled for a share of the spoils.
