Retired Ghana Black Stars and Al Ahly striker Felix Aboagye has issued a caution to Dreams FC following their goalless draw against Egyptian giants Zamalek SC in the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup in Cairo.
Despite holding their own against Zamalek at the packed Cairo International Stadium, where goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi shone with superb saves, Dreams FC must remain vigilant.
He warned Dreams FC against complacency, citing the danger of celebrating prematurely, as seen in a circulating video of the team jubilating in the changing room.
“I saw a viral video of Dreams FC players and technical team jubilating in their dressing room after their first leg draw against Zamalek. I would say that the task hasn’t ended yet for them to be jubilating without knowing how the second leg will go. I feel if complacency sets in, it can destroy their progress,” he said in an interview with Nimdee FM in Sunyani.
The former player of Zamalek emphasized that Egyptian teams often excel away from home in African competitions.
“When you look at the African competition, mostly the North African teams make it to the semi-final and make it to the final and this season you could see that Dreams FC are the only West African side there, but let’s not forget that Zamalek are very stood travelers”
“Yes, we are all applauding them, but the task isn’t yet ended. The task ahead should be finished, which I think is very vital. Zamalek are very good travelers. All the Arabian clubs are tactically disciplined when playing away, so I think they (Dreams) shouldn’t start jubilating, but they should remain focused and finish the task ahead,” he ended.
With the second leg crucially important, Dreams FC, led by Karim Zito, will host Zamalek on Sunday, April 28, 2024, televised live on Max TV at 4 p.m.
