Former Asante Kotoko center-back, Awal Mohammed has surprisingly revealed his take-home salary during his first time in the Ghana Premier League with the Porcupines Warriors.
Speaking exclusively to Ghanasportspage.com, the former Black Stars defender stated that he received GH₵500 as a monthly salary during his time with Asante Kotoko in 2010.
“Now the salary is even better. I was taking 500gh as my salary at Kotoko. They are being paid better today, so this is the time the supporters should troop to the stadium to support the boys. They shouldn’t look at their monies they are taking,” he told Ghanasportspage.com
“I didn’t lack anything because I was a Kumasi boy, I didn’t buy anything with the salary I was taking at Kotoko. Upon all the salary I was receiving, I was still going home to eat and other stuff because you can’t do anything with the 500Gh”
Awal Mohammed joined Kotoko in the 2010/11 season from WAFA, then Feyenoord Academy after completing his loan stint at ASEC Mimosas.
The 2015 AFCON runner-up with the Black Stars joined South African side Maritzburg United in 2012 after impressive displays for the Porcupines.
He returned to Kotoko in the 2016/17 season for a second stint and was a key member of the team that won the President Cup and the FA Cup in 2017 before leaving the club to join Al-Fahaheel SC in 2018.
Awal Mohammed last played for Indian side Sreenidi Deccan FC in the 2021/22 season and is currently a free agent.
