Former Accra Hearts of Oak winger has called on football loving fans to stop comparing him to five-time Cristiano Ronaldo, saying he was far better than the ex-Real Madrid star in terms of freekick.
In an interview with Accra-based Mothers 102.FM, the retired Ghanaian footballer said: “Cristiano Ronaldo can not be compared to me in terms of free-kick. He should sit aside. You should have mentioned the likes of Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, David Beckham, Pirlo, and Juninho.
“Ronaldo is far behind. I was playing during Juninho and Beckham’s era, but Ronaldo was very young at that time and was starting from the bench.
“You have to compare me to Juninho, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, Figo, Pirlo, Totti, and others but not Ronaldo. I would be the world’s best if our era was today, but I thank God for how far he has brought me. The name “Don Bortey” will remain forever.
Don Bortey was revered on the local scene during his days with Hearts of Oak for his enormous talent and skill, which endeared him to the fans.
Despite being regarded as one of the best players to play in the domestic top flight league, the Teshie born forward could not reach the height expected of him.
