GPS1 take a look at some highly-rated superstars who could leave their clubs in the Ghana Premier League this season. Hearts of Oak’s Salifu Ibrahim, Glid Otanga and Steven Mukwala are among the key players who are likely to leave the shores of Ghana for bumper deals after the ongoing campaign.
IBRAHIM SALIFU – ACCRA HEARTS OF OAK
Widely hailed as one of the best midfielders in the Ghana Premier League, Hearts of Oak superstar Ibrahim Salifu is set to be out of contract in June.
The midfield dynamo has been impressive for Hearts of Oak since his arrival despite injuries, having emerged as the best player of the 2020/21 GPL season.
Salifu joined the Phobians in February 2021 on a three-year deal from Techiman Eleven Wonders and was very instrumental in the club winning their first league trophy in eleven years and also the FA Cup.
Considering his skill set, there would be no shortage of suitors if Hearts of Oak do not or cannot extend his contract after the season.
JUSTICE BLAY – ASANTE KOTOKO SC
Ghanasportspage.com understands that the ex-Medeama midfielder won’t be at the club much longer, as reports suggest a deal is in place for him to join a new club despite extending his contract to 2025.
Justice Blay initially joined Kotoko on loan for the 2019/2020 season.
After becoming the fans’ favourite, Kotoko made the move permanent in January 2022 and signed him on a two-year deal.
Although injuries have hindered his progress at the club, he appears to have regained his form this season for Asante Kotoko but it is understood he is likely to leave the Reds for a new challenge.
STEVEN MUKWALA – ASANTE KOTOKO SC
The Ugandan international has attracted interests from some top African clubs in the ongoing campaign.
Mukwala’s contract with the Porcupine Warriors expires in August and is expected to leave the shores of Ghana.
The attacker has been impressive for his club this season, scoring 12 Premier League goals, which has caught the attention of several clubs in Africa.
Mukwala who formerly played for Uganda Revenue Authority SC joined Asante Kotoko on a two-year contract in August 2022 with an option for another year. He has been named in Uganda’s squad for their key FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria.
DANLAD IBRAHIM – ASANTE KOTOKO SC
A goalkeeper with huge pedigree, having won U-20 AFCON. The 21-year-old is likely to leave Asante Kotoko this season for a a new challenge.
The young goalkeeper has a growing profile, with his World Cup journey with the Black Stars.
Danlad was heavily linked with a departure from the Kumasi-based club last season. Despite staying, it doesn’t look like he has much time left to spend with the GPL record holders. He has been relegated from his position under Coach Prosper Ogum and has found himself on the bench.
If rumors are anything to go by, Danlad is closer than ever to leaving Asante Kotoko after seven years.
GLID OTANGA – HEARTS OF OAK
We can boldly confirm that the Congolese midfielder will not renew his contract with the Rainbows at the end of the season.
Otanga’s contract with the GPL giants will expire in August 2024 and would be open to leaving club, according to a report.
The midfielder has become one of the league’s best midfielders since arriving in 2022 and this has naturally attracted the attention of bigger clubs.
However, there are doubts over the future of the Congolese but we can confirm that this season could be the end of his relationship with the Hearts of Oak.
Having helped them to win the FA Cup, his great and amazing performances for the Rainbows will raise the possibility of a big move upon the expiry of his contract.
Prior to joining the Phobians, the 22-year-old had played Akonangui FC of Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon’s Coton Sport FC de Garoua.
