In a fervent endorsement, ex-Hearts of Oak defender Dan Quaye champions his former team’s chances against Asante Kotoko in the upcoming Super Clash. Set to unfold at the iconic Baba Yara Stadium, the clash epitomizes the pinnacle of Ghanaian football fervor.
Despite recent setbacks for both sides, with Kotoko falling to Berekum Chelsea and Hearts of Oak enduring a narrow loss to Aduana Stars, Quaye remains resolute in his belief.
Reflecting on the waning hype surrounding Ghanaian football, he underscores the historical significance of this rivalry, where passion once permeated the streets with flags adorning taxis, signaling the impending spectacle.
“Ghana football is in tartars. Prior to a super clash like this some years ago, you will feel the euphoria in town. Taxi drivers will use either Hearts of Oak or Kotoko flags or stickers on their cars which will indicate to even a foreigner that there’s a big game coming on”
“The performance of the two clubs has dwindled this season. But in a super clash there’s no form guide. Anyone can win despite being in a poor form”
Acknowledging the current form slump of both clubs, Quaye asserts the timeless unpredictability of the Super Clash, where form often takes a back seat to the intensity of the occasion. Highlighting the unique pressure faced by the home team, he exudes confidence in Hearts of Oak’s ability to seize victory, regardless of the odds.
“One key thing about the super clash is there’s always pressure on the home team which makes it easier for the away side. I’m 100% sure that Hearts of Oak will win on Sunday by hook or crook” he said.
As the highly anticipated encounter looms, Asante Kotoko occupies 10th place with 40 points, while Hearts of Oak trails closely behind in 12th with 38 points.
