GPL Match Report: Heart of Lions stun leaders FC Samartex to boost relegation battle
Heart of Lions took a significant step towards escaping relegation in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon by stunning league leaders FC Samartex with a 2-0 victory.
The Kpando-based team hosted their matchday 31 opponent at the Kpando Sports Stadium, determined to secure at least a point to climb up the league table.
The first half ended in a goalless stalemate, but Heart of Lions surged ahead in the second half.
Ebenezer Abban broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, putting the hosts in the lead. In the final minutes of the match, Abban struck again, sealing a crucial 2-0 win for Heart of Lions.
This victory has propelled Heart of Lions to 13th place on the Ghana Premier League table, moving them three spots above the relegation zone.
Despite the defeat, FC Samartex remain at the top of the standings, although their lead has been cut to six points.
