Asante Kotoko Sporting Club return to winning ways after picking a 2-0 win over their arch-rival Accra Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Rainbows struggled in their previous game, losing 1-0 to Aduana Stars. Kotoko on the other hand suffered a 2-1 defeat to Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.
Both teams were looking to bounce back from their difficult weekend game but it was Kotoko who sealed a 2-0 victory courtesy Steven Mukwala’s brace.
Kotoko started the game brightly and looked dangerous in the early stages of the game, with the opening goal coming from the Ugandan international in the 13th minute.
Hearts pushed to get an equaliser before the halftime break but could not get past the Kotoko’s defence.
The second half started with more intensity for the Rainbows with four substitutions but their pressure did not cause any havoc for the hosts.
Steven Mukwala, however, scored the second goal of the game to kill the Phobians hope of getting the equaliser in the 90th minute. The prolific attacker showed his striking prowess again by beating the Hearts defence to score with a lovely dummy.
The win takes the Porcupine Warriors into 9th position as they push for a top four finish. They sit five points off the top four.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak now find themselves in a danger zone. They occupy the 15th place with 38 points – two points above the relegation.
